Employees of the 15th department of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “IGKE” as part of the research work on the topic “Development of standards for the implementation of forest climate projects” developed draft standards for two types of forest climate projects:
– creation of carbon-storing plantations on non-forest lands;
– organization of fire protection of unmanaged forest lands.
The standards include approaches to estimating the baseline of net greenhouse gas emissions, justifying the additionality of project activities, general approaches to assessing the achieved reduction in emissions/increasing the absorption of greenhouse gases, as well as sets of discount factors to minimize the risk of variability in the results of project activities, compliance with the principles of biodiversity and maintaining the sustainability of local natural ecosystems.
