Based on data from systematic hydrobiological observations carried out on water bodies of Russia by the departments of the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (UGMS), the quality of surface waters is assessed based on hydrobiological indicators – data on the quantitative and qualitative composition of surface water ecosystems and coastal marine ecosystems of various hydrographic regions . To assess the state of ecosystems, the following gradations of state were used: state of environmental well-being; state of anthropogenic environmental stress; state of anthropogenic ecological regression; state of anthropogenic metabolic regression. Analysis and synthesis of information on the state of communities and various groups of organisms in water bodies are presented in comparison with the previous year and taking into account the anthropogenic impact on aquatic ecosystems.
