Sergey SEMENOV

Graduated from Moscow State University in 1970, Department for Mechanics and Mathematics.

Academic degrees: MS(eq.) in mathematics (1970); PhD(eq.) in mathematics (1974);

DSc in biophysics (1985); Professor in ecology (1997).  

Research field: climate science, ecology, physics of the atmosphere.

Since 1974 to present, works in Moscow, Russia at

- the Institute of Applied Geophysics;

- Laboratory for Environment and Climate Monitoring;

- Yu.A. Izrael Institute of Global Climate and Ecology (IGCE).

Held positions: Junior research scientist, Senior research scientist, Head of division, Deputy director (Science), Director, Chief Scientist (at present).

Half-time position: Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences, chief scientist.

Scientific publications: over 200 in total, 6 books. Lead editor of ‘The Assessment Report on the Climate Change and Its Consequences in the Russian Federation. Volume II. Impacts of the Climate Change’ (2008). Lead co-editor of ‘The Second Roshydromet Assessment Report on the Climate Change and Its Consequences in the Russian Federation’ (2014).

Activity at the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC): Lead Author (from 1988) and Coordinating Lead Author (from 2003) of the   Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). In 2008, elected as the IPCC Bureau member, WGII Vice-Chair. Re-elected in 2015. Represents Russia in the IPCC.
